About Rick Filson
Rick Filson was a beloved teacher at James E. Taylor High School, who passed away from cancer on April 13th, 2020. Those who knew the educator, knew his passion for teaching his students. His classroom door was always open to anyone, and he often offered the kind of advice students needed to hear. He pushed students to reach their full potential, and gave life lessons of hope, compassion, and kindness. He was an amazing husband to his loving wife, Pam Filson, as well as an incredible father to his three children. Outside of teaching, Rick loved coaching soccer and spending time with family, particularly his grandkids, who he was so very proud of. Rick Filson embodied just what it means to be an educator, and his legacy is one to be honored. It was his motto to “Make a difference each and every day,” and that is what we will aim to do in his name.
